Pediatrics isn't what I do, it's who I am. That assertion has been true since my earliest days in medical training. It’s even truer now after nearly 20 years in pediatric practice.
As a kid, I spent Christmastime traveling back to Baltimore and Philadelphia to see my grandparents. As my mother wasn’t keen on flying, we often took Amtrak trains, usually on the northern route, through icy winter landscapes.
After more than 30 years, Dr. Robert Velarde has announced his retirement from the practice of pediatric medicine at the end of December.
Thanksgiving always seems like a good time for me to reflect on the many things in life for which I am truly and deeply thankful. God has blessed me, and I give thanks for so many things.
Autumn leaves falling each year herald an annual ritual: the first parent-teacher conferences at school. Starting in preschool and through high school, these opportunities to sit face to face with the educators who spend a lot of time working with our kids can be invaluable.
